Saguaro

  • Original poem
  • Mixed chorus, 8-part divisi
  • 2 soprano soloists, one in a location far from the ensemble
  • Challenging (professional level chorus)
  • Duration: ca. 4 min.

“Saguaro” was inspired by the landscape, history, and people of the Arizona desert.  The seemingly endless expanses of this beautiful desert are reflected in the music’s evocation of space.  It calls for two soprano soloists, one at the back of the hall (or in another space at a distance from the group) and one within the choir.  “Saguaro” was commissioned and premiered by the Manhattan Choral Ensemble in 2006, and is featured on a 2013 recording by C4: the Choral Composer/Conductor Collective. It is published by See•A•Dot Music Publishing.
