- Duration: ca. 6 min.
“Ana El na r’fa na la” is a Hebrew prayer for healing attributed to Moses, referring to his sister Miriam. I originally composed this melody as a round for the Justice Choir Songbook, basing it on a melody of unknown origin that may be unique to the United Synagogue of Hoboken, where on Shabbat mornings the congregation traditionally chants it repetitively while the rabbi sings the Mi Sheberach prayer for those who are ill. This song is a prayer for the healing of all of our minds and hearts. This version mirrors the practice of my synagogue community by layering the Mi Sheberach prayer (here spoken) over the Ana El Na prayer. Online premiere by Cantate Carlisle. This version of Ana El Na was created for live remote performance, but works wonderfully in-person.
