Here I Am
- Original poem
- Mixed chorus, 4-part divisi
- Accessible (high school and above)
- Duration: ca. 4 min.
Created for online live stream performance or video conference, “Here I Am embraces” the inherent latency of online video conference platforms. Most of the work is in aleatoric format, where singers are asynchronously singing specific phrases in repetition. I composed it at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, to help choral singing continue during the time of isolation with new repertoire for live-remote performance. Now performed in-person, it can serve as a reflection on the importance of community in times of hardship.
